I’m just a film girl… in a digital world

Helping you learn DSLR photography –

I believe learning DSLR photography does not have to be so difficult. I am here to help you learn to use your DSLR camera in simple steps, one blog post at a time. When I bought my first DSLR, it felt like there were such few resources for someone who didn’t have a digital background. I scoured the internet looking for help wherever I could. I’d string together bits of information together until I was able to get better and better at DSLR Photography. As a person with a photography background, this was very frustrating. If it was this tough for me, I could only image what it would be like for someone with no photography background. I am here to bring you all the tips and tricks I wish I had known 8 years ago, all in one place!

How DSLR photography clicked for me –

I bought my first DSLR camera in 2009 in preparation for my honeymoon. Having spent years as a hobbyist film photographer, I was certain a fancy, up to date DSLR would be piece of cake. Boy was I wrong! Once I realized how tricky mastering a DSLR was, I went back to three things I knew –

  1. I am a classically trained B&W film photographer.
  2. My manual camera was so minimalistic compared to my new DSLR. Guess what, it produced amazing images!
  3. The best way to learn manual was, practice, practice, practice

If you are struggling to achieve images on your DSLR that you are proud of, you are in the right place. I am here to give you all the tips and tricks I wish I had known 8 years ago when I started off with my first DSLR. Whether your DSLR is your first camera, or you are used to film, point & click … cell phone anyone?! I will help get answers to the problems you are having. Be sure to check in on the film girl digital world blog to see what’s new! Do you feel like you need personal assistance? Sign up for one of my critiques and get personalized feedback.
